So I have decided to start a new segment on my blog. I’m not exactly sure what it is going to encompass, but I wanted to create a space where I can express my thoughts about anything and everything. I am also going to incorporate my weekly Bible studies and maybe we can create a community where everyone is welcome to share their own thoughts as well! One of the goals I set for 2018 was to read the Bible so I’m hoping that doing a blog post every Sunday will hold me accountable for my reading. Back at the beginning of the month I wrote down some of the other goals I have for this year and I wanted to share them:
- be more positive and kind
- improve my health and fitness
- pay it forward to others (pay for the person behind you at Starbucks, round up your bill to donate to a charity, etc.)
- put more money into savings
- keep my space clean and organized
- spend more time investing in friendships
- focus on school
- stay true to myself and my beliefs
- go to bed earlier
- plan a fun trip for summer 2018
- stay committed to blogging, making videos, journaling etc.
- read more books
- explore the world and try new things
Most of these things I am going to have to slowly work on over the course of this year, but I’m so excited to finally be working on bettering myself and doing things I love.
If you haven’t set goals for yourself this year I strongly recommend doing so! Even if they are the smallest things, it’s all about making the most out of your life and improving yourself and the community around you. I wrote my goals in my journal and took a picture of them to set as my background on my phone so I can constantly be reminded of what I want to be working towards. You could do this or also hang them up somewhere in your room so you don’t forget about them in the next two weeks!
I know I’ll get a lot of questions about the Bible I have so I’m linking it here before I even start. Growing up I never went to church consistently so I was never very familiar with the stories in the Bible and looking for a Bible a the bookstore was so overwhelming to me. I was so so incredibly excited and grateful when one of my close friends got me this Bible for my birthday/Christmas! I really love all of the cute graphics and helpful resources that this Bible comes with–it makes me actually excited to read it.
Today’s readings: Genesis 1-10
“The LORD God made clothing from skins for the man and his wife, and he clothed them.” Genesis 3:21
“Then the LORD replied to him, “In that case, whoever kills Cain will suffer vengeance seven times over” And he placed a mark on Cain so that whoever found him would not kill him” Genesis 4:15
~I like these verses because they show how even though Adam and Eve sinned by eating from the tree of knowledge and Cain killed his brother Abel, God never gave up on them. He continued to help and care for them even after they disobeyed Him.
“Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves” Genesis 3:7
~Can you imagine living in a world where you are completely oblivious to everything around you? It kinda sounds nice when you first think about it–you wouldn’t have to compare yourself to everyone around you and know about the horrors of the world. But knowledge is so powerful. With knowledge you can there are so many things that you can do and change. If something is not right in the world you can use your knowledge and experience to drive change.
